When visiting Rome near the Vatican, after exploring the museums or St. Peter’s Square, there’s always that moment when you suddenly want to find a place to sit down, order a coffee, and take a bite of a crispy pastry to slow down time.
My top recommendation is Love Roma Specialty Croissants. This tiny shop is super close to the Vatican Museums (Via Tunisi, 51, 00192 Roma), it looks understated from the outside, but the moment you walk in, the smell of butter hits you, and you think “ah, this is Rome’s gentle daily life”.
The croissant here is the signature — the crust is crispy in layers, making a “crack-crack” sound when you bite into it, with a light and impossibly airy interior.
They have other family members too:
- Pain au chocolate: chocolate chips folded into the dough, not chocolate sauce, for a richer texture.
- Cornetto alla crema: filled with custard cream (crema pasticcera), if you love milky richness, this one is a must-try.
Other must-haves:
- Cinnamon roll: sweet but not cloying, just the right amount of cinnamon, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.
- Moon Love: moon-shaped coffee-flavored dessert, filled with coffee custard cream, balanced between bitter and sweet, super comforting.
They also have weekly/monthly speciale del mese or speciale della settimana — I’ve had ones with peaches and ones with figs, always a surprise.
Besides sweets, there are also a few savory options like focaccia or mini pizza. You can also see Brunch options on the Menu, but I always go for the simple croissant — after all, Taiwanese brunch is the true king of value, the charm here is that simple happiness.
The space is small, not many tables, usually by noon many pastries are sold out (perfect for a break after visiting the museums in the morning).
The staff speaks English, friendly and warm, won’t make you feel awkward. At the end of 2025, they opened another location in the city center, Slow Roma (Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 73, 00186 Roma), also specializing in specialty coffee & pastry, worth visiting.
