Every year on June 2nd, the air in Rome feels a little different.
This is Festa della Repubblica, Italy’s Republic Day, commemorating the birth of the Italian Republic in 1946. For Rome, it’s not just a holiday — it’s a quiet yet grand city celebration.
In the morning, Via dei Fori Imperiali fills with people. Planes draw red, white, and green trails across the sky, military bands and honor guards march past, and the Altare della Patria stands solemn and majestic. In the evening, many head toward the Quirinale Palace, and fireworks may light up the sky near Castel Sant’Angelo.
But for me, the most beautiful part isn’t the grand official events.
It’s the gentle joy that wraps around the whole city.
People dress up a little nicer, families go out together, laughter fills the squares, and even the air feels softer.
If you’re in Rome in early June, I recommend keeping this day open and taking it slow. Watch the parade near the Fori Imperiali (arrive early for a good spot), or simply wander the city center in the afternoon. You’ll see many Italian families out together, and the atmosphere feels especially warm.
On this day, Rome slows down just a little — carrying both dignity and everyday tenderness.
These moments, filled with history yet full of human warmth, are exactly what we love to capture with our lens.
Not just to document the event, but to remember how you felt, and the time you shared with the people you love.
If you’d like to turn your June in Rome into lifelong memories, we’d be happy to help you preserve them.
Buona Festa della Repubblica ♡
